MEET LYDIA WARING

ISSUE #005 MAKING OF A MODEL

What type of model do you consider yourself to be, and what lane in the industry are you looking to grow in most?

Realistically, I have interest in all of the sample categories listed above. However, I’d say my biggest interests lie with fashion, editorial, beauty, commercial and runway. I have a mostly alternative look and style, but I can also easily go barefaced and do work for a natural beauty brand. I love pushing boundaries with fashion and artistic expression and I believe that’s where I’d primarily like to focus, however, I am a big fan and consumer of many products such as coffee, fitness gear, supplements, hair, and beauty products.

What separates you from other models, and how would you describe your personal brand or image?

I think my strength primarily lies in my versatility. I have a wide variety of life experiences. I grew up on a farm and I’m familiar with blue collar gear and clothing, I fly airplanes and have a toe in aviation, I love beauty, fashion and styling, but I also know how to operate a chainsaw and a scissor lift.  I’ve traveled to multiple countries tries internationally but I also have traveled a great deal of the US and spent the majority of my time on farms and fields. I feel I can represent many times of women because that’s who I am. I am a multidimensional person with a wide variety of interests. I know many women that are also like that and I want to represent the women that choose to live multiple lives in one.

Why did you choose Red Print Magazine to help sponsor, promote, or elevate your modeling career?

Red Print Magazine represents real faces. Many modeling agencies and magazines are highly restrictive in their model criteria for the sake of exclusivity. And while I believe there is a real purpose for that at times, I also think it’s important for real people to represent real people. The majority of us do not have the typical model “look” and deserve representation as well.

Where do you see yourself within the next 1–2 years as a model, and what opportunities are you hoping to gain from Making of a Model?

Within the next 1-2 years I hope to be a face on band merchandise for a few musicians. I hope to be getting paid for my time and travel. I would love to be a face for some alternative brands, beauty brands and also some workwear brands. Through Making of a Model, I hope to gain useful knowledge as well connections with real people in the industry. It’s very difficult to grow and gain an audience, and I’m hopeful that Red Print can help get my name out there for discovery.
